Frequently asked questions

How do you annualise a return?

By compounding: the ratio of what came back to what went in, raised to the power of one over the number of years, minus one. That turns a 60 percent return over three years into about 17 percent a year, which is the only fair way to compare it with anything else.

How exact is it?

The arithmetic is exact and rounded the way money is, at the cent. What it cannot know is anything specific to you, so read it as the ordinary case rather than as advice.

Is anything uploaded?

Every figure is worked out in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, there is no sign-up, and no result is stored anywhere but on your own device.
