Frequently asked questions
How do I work out a percentage of a number?
Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by 100. 20% of 250 is 250 × 20 / 100 = 50. The first mode does exactly that.
How do I work out a percentage change?
Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. From 40 to 50 that is (50 - 40) / 40 × 100 = 25%.
What is the difference between percent and percentage points?
Percent compares two numbers; a percentage point is the plain difference between two percentages. Going from 3% to 5% is a rise of 2 percentage points, or of about 67 percent.
How do I add or remove VAT with this?
The add or subtract mode does the arithmetic, but the VAT calculator is better for it: it splits the tax out and shows the net amount, the tax and the total.
